The Hero’s Intrapreneur Journey
The most frequently expressed concern of CEOs of large enterprises is lack of innovation capability. They say they want to create institutions full of individuals thinking and behaving like entrepreneurs rather than rule-following Taylor-optimised drones. The reality is that for the most part that’s not what they actually want. This leaves the prospective intrapreneur with a host of contradictions to deal with, the biggest of which being the need to break rules in environments where rule-breaking is essentially prohibited. At the same time, there are no meaningful places where intrapreneurs can acquire the skills and traits needed to successfully navigate the anthrocomplex never-stepping-in-the-same-river-twice riptides of changing enterprises. Enterprises built on a century of stability-seeking goals and ‘continuous improvement’ efficiency memes. The Hero’s Intrapreneur Journey is our latest book, the result of over forty years working as and working with successful (and not so successful) intrapreneurs. The book builds around six core principles of successful intrapreneurship – Compass, Complexity, Contradiction, Calibration, Community and Charisma – and the belief that the world’s most AI-proof role is set to be the politically astute intrapreneur.
